Week 2's assignment had the class making a contact microphone and recording random interesting sounds which we then made a composition out of in the groups that we were put it. We also had to hack into our toys in order to see how we could change their sounds.
My toy almost made me become suicidal. It constantly broke and I had to solder wires together atleast once a day. in the end it fell apart literally before our performance but because we were required to use the toy to make a sound in some way, I bashed it by the microphone in order to get some loud banging sounds. I also ripped pieces of paper at different speeds and scratched a vinyl.
My recorded material consisted of scratching a pillow and an avocado.
I had decided to scratch objects and experiment with those different sounds because I have always had strong and long nails and always used them when I'd needed to, and decided to give it a try.
In the end I believe our performance was a success because the performance had to be improvised and my group had never actually practiced together so it literally was an improvised performance, and we each had a large range of sounds.
I think this assignment has helped me with the coming assignments because I've learned that sound can be created in many different ways, using many different objects.

week 1
Week one's Studio project involved a composition of sounds around Auckland City.
My group and I had decided to record everything together, and then split all the sounds up and each create a 45 second piece on what themes interested us.
My theme was mechanics and machinery because I like the fact that it has the power to drown out so many things, including your own thoughts.
I felt like I had entered this project without opening up to the idea but as I was editing, I realized how much fun this project really is, and how sound can influence one's perception on many topics.
